Privacy policy

This site is a static reference. It has no accounts, no login, no comments and no newsletter, so there is nothing here for you to hand over personal data to.

What is collected

No analytics are running on this site right now. No Google Analytics, no Microsoft Clarity, no tracking pixel of any kind. We would rather state that plainly than describe a setup that is not live.

When analytics are switched on, they will be privacy-conscious and aggregate only (page URL, referrer, approximate country, browser and device type, with IP anonymisation), and this section will be rewritten to name each service before the code ships, not after.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies of its own. With analytics switched off, nothing on this site sets a cookie at all. Blocking cookies in your browser, or using any content blocker, has no effect on the site working.

The spec checker

The hardware checker runs entirely in your browser. We hold no copy of your selection and there is no server call behind it.

One detail worth stating plainly: your choice is written into the page URL (?gpu=&cpu=) so the result is shareable. Because analytics tools normally record the full page URL, we explicitly strip those two parameters before Google Analytics sees the address. If you paste that link somewhere yourself, the hardware is of course visible in it.

Microsoft Clarity is the exception, and we would rather say so than imply a protection we do not have: Clarity offers no supported way to rewrite the URL it records, so if it is ever enabled here it would capture the address including those two parameters. Clarity is not enabled on this site today.

Embedded video

The how-to-play page embeds two YouTube clips. The player itself is not loaded until you click play, and when you do it loads from youtube-nocookie.com. Be aware of one thing we get asked about: the still image shown before you click is fetched from YouTube's image server (i.ytimg.com), so YouTube can see that request even if you never press play. If you would rather it did not, any content blocker stops it, and the page stays usable.

Links off this site

We link to Steam and to Steam Community threads. Those pages have their own privacy policies, and this one does not cover them.

Advertising and cookies used by ad networks

This site does not serve ads today. We are applying to Google AdSense, and this section describes what will happen if and when that is approved, so that it is documented before any ad code exists rather than after.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this or other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies (including the DoubleClick cookie) enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings. To opt out of third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising more broadly, visit aboutads.info or the NAI opt-out page.
  • Third-party vendors we have not contracted with may also place cookies if they appear in an ad served to you. Their use of data is governed by their own privacy policies, not this one.

Consent in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland

Before any personalised advertising is served to visitors in those regions, this site will use a Google-certified Consent Management Platform to ask for consent for advertising cookies and for the sharing of data with ad vendors, and will respect a refusal. Analytics will be gated behind the same consent. Until ads exist here, the only third-party code is the analytics named above and the YouTube player, which loads only after you click play.

US state privacy rights

If you live in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia or another state with a comprehensive privacy law, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for targeted advertising. This site does not sell personal information. We hold no account records, so there is generally nothing to delete. Being straight with you about the mechanics: this site runs no analytics, sets no cookies of its own, has no accounts and no forms, so there is no store of personal information here for a request to act on. If you want to make one anyway, the address on the contact page reaches a person.

Your rights and contact

Because we hold no personally identifying records, there is no account data to export or delete. For anything else, the contact page sets out which channels are live right now and which are not.
